US Open 2021: Elina Svitolina vs Simona Halep LIVE stream: When, Where and How to Watch

World No.5 Elina Svitolina has suddenly become one of the toughest players to beat on the hard courts. Ever since she won the gold medal at the recently concluded Tokyo Games, the Ukrainian is brimming with confidence and that is being demonstrated on the court. Although she lost in the initial rounds of Montreal and Cincinnati, Svitolina made amends by winning the title in Chicago, ahead of the 2021 US Open.

This week too in New York, the No.5 seed has made light work of her opponents in the first three round. Svitolina beat Daria Kasatkina in the previous round. Having not dropped a set till now, she is going to be a tough nut to crack going ahead. The 26-year-old has been to the US Open semifinals in 2019 and will once again be a threat during the second week in New York.

On the other hand, Simona Halep comes into this match after surviving a tough five setter against Elena Rybakina in the third round. She also beat the Kristina Kucova in the second round. But perhaps, the biggest confidence gainer for the two-time Grand Slam champion was overcoming the challenge of Montreal champion Camilla Giorgi in the opening round.

While Halep has won the French Open and Wimbledon, she is yet to get her hands on a hard court Grand Slam. That said, the World No.2 is a former semifinalist in New York and could be a dangerous floater in the women’s draw in this tournament.

Both Svitolina and Halep have also met several times on the WTA tour and will know exactly what to expect from one another. At the moment, it is the Ukrainian who leads the Romanian 5-4.
