“That’s not going to be enough anymore” Andy Murray slammed by Paul Annacone, former coach of Federer and Sampras

Former World No. 1 Andy Murray went out crashing in the second round of the ongoing 2022 Rotterdam Open when he lost in straight-sets to Canadian youngster Felix Auger-Aliassime. Murray entered the Top-100 of the ATP rankings for the first time in 45 months but could not back it up with a good performance like many expected.
Murray had earlier defeated Alexander Bublik who had come into the match with a title at the 2022 Montpellier Open where he defeated top seed and World No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the finals. Murray defeated Bublik in straight-sets and looked promising but Felix turned out to be too good for the Brit who goes out in the Round of 16.
While many appreciate Murray continuing to battle with a metal hip and showing continuous signs of improvement but Paul Annacone, current coach of Taylor Fritz and former coach of Roger Federer and Pete Sampras had some different thoughts to offer on Murray’s current situation.
“We know Andy Murray loves being a blocker, that he loves leaning on those great defensive skills, but unfortunately, that’s not going to be enough anymore. The players today are too athletic, there is too much power in this modern tennis. He is going to have to find a way, I think it goes through using his first ball as well as possible because it can be very effective,” said Annacone speaking on Tennis TV where he works in the capacity of an analyst.
Andy Murray to play in Qatar Open next
Murray has been handed the wildcard for the upcoming ATP-250 Qatar Open where he will make his second appearance of the month. The tournament will feature some of the top players in the form of Denis Shapovalov, Roberto Bautista Agut, last year’s champion Nikoloz Basilashvili, Daniel Evans, Karen Khacanov and Bublik to name a few. Murray can however expect his rank to improve further and is expected to rise to the World No. 87 spot after his short stay in Rotterdam.
