It was a historic Saturday night in Australian tennis history as World No.1 Ash Barty became the first Aussie to win the Australian Open after 44 years. Barty defeated 27th seed Danielle Collins in the final in straight sets 6-3,7-6(2) to win the 2022 Australian Open title. In doing so, Barty is now only the second active player along with Serena Williams to win grand slams on every surface.

Barty won the title without dropping a single set and dropped only 30 games- speaking volumes of her dominance. The only grand slam eluding her is the US Open and if she stays fit, she’ll have a very good chance of completing the calendar slam this season itself.

Needless to say, Barty is one of the most likable athletes on tour and hence her fellow compatriots took to Twitter to congratulate her. Top journalists and tennis pundits too lauded Barty for her incredible outing in Melbourne.

Ons Jabeur, Petra Kvitova, quarterfinalist Alize Cornet, and semifinalist Iga Swiatek too praised Barty for scripting history.

Tennis legends and icons, Billie Jean King and Darren Cahill too lauded Barty for her success. Former World No.1 Mats Wilander too said that Barty could very well win many more slams.
