All eyes were on Roger Federer, as he took to the court for the first time in over two years. However, the Swiss suffered a loss in the second round of Geneva Open 2021, after he was defeated in the second round by Pablo Andujar. The Swiss battled right until the end, but Andujar managed to hold his nerve, and eventually won in three sets.

Roger Federer had previously stated that he has low expectations from Geneva Open 2021, and hopes to be at his 100% before the Wimbledon Championships. Speaking after his second round loss, the Swiss reiterated that his main aim is not the French Open, but the grass court season. The 39-year was practicing well ahead of his second round match at Geneva Open, but stated that matches are different as compared to practice sessions.

“My goal is the grass court season, not Roland Garros. Next weeks will be important to get used to the Tour again. Matches are different than training sessions,” said Roger Federer.

Roger Federer will next compete at the French Open 2021, which takes place in a few weeks time. The Swiss maestro then moves on to Halle, and will also compete at Wimbledon. Federer stated that he has lot of work ahead of him, and accepted that he expected to play better on Tuesday.

“It is disappointing but I have to accept it as part of the process and move on. I did expect to play better. I have a lot of work ahead of me,” said the Swiss. The 39-yeae old saw the positive side of things, and stated that it was important that he could atleast compete again. “The good thing is that I can play tennis again,” he added.

The Swiss accepted that the chances of him winning French Open 2021 are super slim, given that he was out for almost a year. “I know I will not win the French Open. I’m not so sure in the last 50 years in Paris somebody rocked up at 40 years old, being out for a year and a half, and wins everything straight or in five sets,” he added.

Roger Federer was clearly underprepared for the second round clash against Pablo Andujar, and was looking rusty at times. However, one can never write of Roger Federer, and he is expected to do well at French Open 2021.
