World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is all set to make his season debut when he takes the court at the upcoming ATP-500 Dubai Championships 2022 where he has been seeded first. Djokovic had earlier made attempts to participate in the 2022 Australian Open but the Australian government had cancelled his visa and despite two court battles, the player was banned for 3 years from entering the country.

Since then Djokovic has not spoken about the issue as he continues to get disturbing news of him being not allowed for future tournaments as many countries are now looking to make vaccination compulsory for all the foreign nationals entering the country. Despite this, the Dubai government has made no such policy and the Serbian who happens to be a 5-time champion at the tournament is welcomed to play once again.

“I think it’s great that he’s back. I know the whole world was against him, but at the end of the day, he is number one in the world and he is a former champion in Dubai. We have no worries about his status because the most important to us is to follow government policy and protocols. The government here does not require anyone to be vaccinated to enter the country. As long as he undergoes PCR tests and these tests are negative, he can enter,” said tournament director Salah Tahlak speaking with the National News.

With the Dubai Championships set to end the Tour action in February, there will be only two events in the month of March, the 2022 Indian Wells Masters and the 2022 Miami Masters. With the USA having made vaccinations compulsory for all its foreign visitors, Djokovic faces another expulsion from a tournament.

Along with these events, the Serbian is also doubtful for the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters and also the 2022 French Open as the French government is also considering putting a ban on unvaccinated nationals entering the country. However, amidst all this, Djokovic will be welcomed at the upcoming 2022 Serbian Open that will be played on Clay.
