THIS Roger Federer record will remain untouched as Novak Djokovic loses World No. 1 ranking

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic
In what has been a difficult start to the year for Novak Djokovic, his bad luck keep on increasing both on and off the court. Having been denied his visa to play at the 2022 Australian Open, the Serbian missed the majority of the action in the month of February as well only to return at the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships.
While he had a good two wins to start his week in Dubai, he lost in the quarter-finals to qualifier and currently the World No. 123 Jiri Vesely who has reached the finals in Dubai and is set to get a massive boost in his ranking that will see him break into the Top-80. Djokovic’s defeat to Vesely meant that he will lose his World No. 1 ranking on 28th February when the ATP updates its rankings and he will be replaced by current World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev who had been the 2nd ranked player for almost a year now.
Novak reached the top of the ATP rankings again on 3rd February 2020 and with the Tour affected due to the Pandemic, Novak continued to keep his ranking and was then untouched even during the 2021 season when he reached all 4 Grand Slam finals winning all except the 2021 US Open that was won by Medvedev.
Roger Federer keeps his record over Novak Djokovic

With his absence in Australia, Novak lost 2000 points as he was the defending champion and further absence from the Tour saw him slump furthermore. This has led to Novak losing his ranking having been the World No. 1 for 79 consecutive weeks starting from February 2020. While he is already the record holder for having spent 361 weeks as the top-ranked player, he won’t be able to break one particular Roger Federer record.
From 2nd February 2004 to 17th August 2008, Federer was unmoved from the top of the ATP rankings spending a total of 237 weeks at the top, a record that stands even today. No other player has reached the 200-weeks mark with Jimmy Connors being the 2nd player on the list having spent 160 consecutive weeks. While Djokovic was only in his 79th week, it was a long chase to catch Federer but it seems the Federer record will stay for a while.
