‘Tim Henman offered me a lot of advice at the 2021 US Open,’ says Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu stunned the tennis world by winning the recently concluded 2021 US Open. Not only did the British girl win her maiden Grand Slam, but she also became the only qualifier in history to go all the way.
Moreover, Raducanu also won the tournament without dropping a single set, much to the amazement of experts and former players. The 18-year-old also became only the second British player after Andy Murray to win the title in New York.
In a recent chat with Amazon Prime Video Sport, the teenager thanked former British No.1 Tim Henman for all the encouragement and advice, throughout the US Open.
“Tim (Henman) came in and we were speaking from the second week, I would say and he basically became a part of the team,” Raducanu said. “And he was just offering me some advice before big matches, or before my first time out on Arthur Ashe.”
“You know it’s great to have someone who has been there and done that when I was so new and inexperienced. And yeah, the reassurance he gave me was great. And yeah, at the end, I think we loved having him a part of the team,” the Canadian born-Brit added.
Henman too heaped plenty of praise on the newly crowned US Open champion. Although he never won a Grand Slam in his career, the English player was the only flag bearer for his country in the 90s and early 2000s.
Henman predicts Raducanu to amass titles
“The level of tennis she’s played – she’s won 10 matches to win the US Open – it’s absolutely incredible,” Henman explained. “For British tennis, British sport and for world tennis it’s really changed the landscape in the last three weeks. I’ve been around the game long enough to know who’s good, who’s very good, and who could be a flash in the pan, and that could not be further from the truth.”
“She’s the real deal, and she’s going to win more of these events in the future, I’m convinced. She’s going to be a superstar in this sport and an incredible role model for young girls and young children,” the 47-year-old predicted.
Currently, Raducanu is ranked No.22 in the WTA charts and will be featuring in the upcoming BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
