Stefanos Tsitsipas is entering Indian Wells as one of the contenders to win the title and has had a very successful season so far. He reached the semifinal of the Australian Open and had the most clay court wins this season on the ATP tour. He also won his first masters title at Monte Carlo and reached the final of the French Open.

In the first round at Indian Wells, he beat Italian qualifier Roberto Marcora in straight sets.
