Carlos Alcaraz
No later than after the 2022 US Open men’s singles champion Carlos Alcaraz today was christened world No. 1 with the latest update on the ATP ranking following his Grand Slam victory, fans have already started mocking the current ATP ranking system in place and degrading the Spaniard’s victory on Twitter.
In a tweet posting mentioning the points needed by players to achieve the world No. 1 rank according to the latest criteria, fans were seen flushing Twitter with tweets criticizing how easy it is for players now to make their way all the way to top and comparing the same with WTA standards saying “in 2022 they turned ATP into WTA.”

“This year has been a bit of an anomaly,” Tennis Twitter low-blows to Carlos Alcaraz on his world No. 1 christening
Carlos Alcaraz in the championship final of the recently concluded Flushing Meadows Grand Slam defeated the Norwegian tennis professional Casper Ruud in a thriller four-setter match, ending with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3. In addition to him adding the US Open title to his mantle, he has been named the youngest player ever to achieve the ATP world No. 1 rank.
Although the 19-year-old is enjoying his embarkment on numerous achievements, the tennis community seemingly is taking low-blows on the Spaniard by criticization of his success and painting him as an enemy of the sport due his early on attainments which a very few professionals are able to.
Here are some of the recorded Twitter reactions by fans:
After Carlos was crowned the world No. 1, Casper Ruud was also placed amongst the top ATP ranking charts with the rank following the Spaniards, world No. 2. The New York champion is also known to have defeated not only Rafael Nadal this season at the Madrid Open but also the Serb Novak Djokovic who was placed at world No. 1 at the time.
Coached by Spanish former world No. 1 and French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alcaraz in a post-match statement showed his compassion for his coach’s efforts saying “he is like my second father, thanks to him he is lifting this trophy today.”
