“Venus/Opelka is a thing!” Fans go into frenzy as Venus Williams cheers on Reilly Opelka at Delray Beach Open

Venus Williams has been on the sidelines for nearly six months due to injuries, but the American is enjoying her time off-court and was seen at the Delray Beach Open last week.

Venus and her sister, Serena dropped by to cheer on their fellow Americans Reilly Opelka and Jack Sock in the second round. Opelka came back from a set down to win the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-1.

Rumors have been flying around regarding Opelka and Venus’ relationship as both are often spotted together and share pics on social media with each other. But Venus denied the rumors last year during an Instagram Q&A session and said “Reilly Opelka shot me down.” They still have a friendly relationship off-court and Venus is often seen supporting Opelka on his on-court endeavors and even congratulated the 24-year-old after he won the inaugural Dallas Beach Open earlier this month. She took to Instagram to congratulate her compatriot on winning his 3rd ATP title. “Record-breaking Tiebreak and the title, Great week Reilly Opelka,” she captioned in her Instagram story.

Now the rumors have reignited again after Venus was spotted in the player’s box during Opelka’s second-round encounter and pics of Venus at the match have been doing the rounds on social media. “Venus/Opelka is a thing,” tennis commentator Jose Morgado replied under the post. Tennis fans have gone frenzy and even called Opelka, Venus’ man after the 7-time Major Winner was seen in the player’s box.

While Venus and Opelka have not replied to the rumors yet, they earlier said their relationship is just friendly after Venus cleared the air around their relationship status last year.

After a sub-par start to the season, Opelka has made quite the turnaround this month. Following his third-round exit at the Australian Open, the American is on a 7-1 win/loss record. He won the inaugural edition of the Dallas Open without dropping a set, his first ATP title in two years. The American then reached the finals of the Delray Beach Open, but top seed Cameron Norrie ended his 7-match winning streak to lift the title.

After playing two tournaments back-to-back Opelka had to withdraw from the Mexican Open due to fatigue. He was initially scheduled to play against reigning Australian Open Rafael Nadal but had to withdraw shortly before the tournament commenced.
