Alexander Zverev smashing his racquet during his match with Denis Shapovalov at the 2022 Australian Open
World No. 3 Alexander Zverev is back in his hunt for his maiden Grand Slam title and Denis Shapovalov is making all the efforts to deny the German entry into the second week of the ongoing 2022 Australian Open as the players are battling it out on the Margaret Court Arena.
The match is turning out as expected and while many expected it to be an even affair, Shapovalov has taken the first two sets and is just a set away from knocking out the big German from the tournament and denying him yet another opportunity for his maiden Slam. Denis was trailing 3-5 in the second set but went on to win it in the tiebreaker much to the frustration of Zverev.
After losing the first set, Zverev was serving to begin the second set and with another unforced error on his forehand, he dropped his serve in the first game giving the breakpoint to the Canadian. Having lost the set earlier, Zverev could not hold his emotions anymore and smashes his racquet thrice in the ground breaking it to pieces.

Things got further worse for Zverev as he went on to lose the set as well despite leading 5-3 at one point. Denis however made a strong comeback to level the score at 5-5 and then force a tiebreaker where he won to take a 2-set lead over the German going into the third set.
Shapovalov will now take on Rafael Nadal who defeated Adrian Mannarino earlier in the day on the Rod Laver Arena and is into his 14th quarter-final of the Australian Open and is increasing his odds of becoming the title contender.
