Roger Federer is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats of the sport celebrates his 40th birthday today and wishes have been pouring for the Swiss Maestro wishing him the best of birthdays. Federer is currently recovering from an unfortunate injury he picked up at the 2021 Wimbledon that will see him out of action for at least a fortnight more missing the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters.

Nevertheless, celebrations are in order across the globe as fans and tennis enthusiasts wish the global superstar yet another birthday, his 23rd birthday as a Pro. One special wish that stands out is from the official YouTube channel of the Australian Open, which uploaded a compilation of 40 best shots Federer has hit in Melbourne over the years having made his debut at the Grand Slam in 2000.

Of the 20 Grand Slam titles Roger has won, 6 of them have come at the Australian Open. His tally at the Australian Open is his 2nd best personally as he has 8 titles at the Wimbledon Championships, 5 at the US Open and a solitary French Open title in his historic tally of the Grand Slam titles.

The compilation consists of his elegant backhands, powerful forehands, cheeky lobs and tweeners, his never-die attitude in long rallies and other shots that just magically stay inside the court having the stamp of Federer on them.

Federer is one of the 8 men to achieve the Career Grand Slam, winning all 4 Grand Slams at least once in their career. While the French Open has been his least won title despite reaching the finals 5 times and being successful only once, majorly due to Rafael Nadal‘s domination at the Roland Garros, Federer still has achieved other great feats in his career.

Other than being the only man with 8 Wimbledon titles and the only one to win 5 consecutive US Open titles (2004-2008), Federer holds the distinction of winning 6 Australian Open titles and is second on the list of most titles won in Melbourne behind Novak Djokovic who has won a record 9 titles in the Open Era.

Federer and Djokovic were tied on 6 titles each when Roger won the 2018 Australian Open title and defending his 2017 crown in the process. Novak however then went on to register a hattrick of titles winning the Grand Slam in 2019, 2020 and 2021 to go clear of Roger.

Federer last played at the Australian Open in the 2020 edition where he was defeated in the semi-finals by Novak. With Federer undergoing surgery after the Slam and Covid affecting tennis activities since then, Roger missed the 2021 Australian Open, a first since he made his competition debut in 2000.

While many fans hope to see Roger back in Australia for yet another time, today everyone will surely take a moment to wish the Swiss Maestro a happy birthday and quick recovery so that he mesmerises the fans again with his skilful display on the court.
