“In the heart of beautiful Compton” Beyonce’s ‘Be Alive’ at the Oscars has Venus and Serena Williams emotional
Beyonce, Venus and Serena Williams
Venus and Serena Williams decision to pay tribute to their father Richard Williams through the highly praised biopic ‘King Richard‘ had the whole world talking upon its release in 2021 and will be now remembered as one of the most brilliant sports dramas that is not a work of fiction but based on the reality that gave the world two of its most successful players who grew as icons as well.
Apart from the brilliant screenplay and acting of Will Smith, the movie also saw the legendary singer Beyonce dropping a new track ‘Be Alive’ which was also nominated for the Oscars but did not bring the trophy home. The Oscars nevertheless saw the song being played when Beyonce live performed it with Serena and Venus introducing the artist who performed for the first time in two years, even though it was done virtually.
The performance was staged in Compton, from where the Williams family started its journey to make Venus and Serena legends of the sport. The entire outfit of Beyonce and the group behind her was in a bright neon yellow mini dress with even the musical instruments customised to go with the tennis-ball theme that the entire group had which included Beyonce’s 8-year old daughter Blue Ivy dancing behind her mother.
The performance was directed toward the Williams family and the Williams sisters acknowledged it by saying, “In the heart of beautiful Compton, where we truly came alive as professional athletes.”
Success for Venus and Serena Williams as King Richard wins an Oscar
The movie gave Will Smith his first Oscar award after having received two nominations earlier but the American legend failed to win the prestigious award. The third time’s the charm for him as he portrayed the role of Richard Williams absolutely flawlessly and deservedly won the award as well.
With total 6 nominations for the movie, it could manage to win only one but it’s not bad for first-time producers Venus and Serena whose mission to bring out the story of their father not only was well received by the fans, but also by the critics and movie literates who honoured the movie with an Oscar.
