The youngster qualified for the year-end next-gen ATP finals. At the tournament in Milan, Alcaraz defeated Brandon Nakashima, Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, and Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune in the round-robin stage. He advanced to the semifinals undefeated, where he defeated Sebastian Baez. He then advanced to the final, where he defeated Sebastian Korda to win his first ATP Finals championship.
He produced a moment of absolute magic during his match against Nakashima in what was eventually recently voted as the best ATP shot of the year in an Instagram poll by Tennis TV.
The shot came after a breathless long rally. Nakashima’s shot had brushed the net and changed its course. Alcaraz, who was already chasing the ball and was caught off-balance, readjusted his body to backhand the ball past his opponent to win the rally. The wonder moment was greeted by a huge round of applause by the appreciative crowd.
Alcaraz won the competition for the best short against Hubert Hurkacz with a voting share of 59% in the Instagram poll.

After a solid season where he finished with a career-high ranking of 32, the youngster has set his targets for the upcoming season.

Alcaraz has now set his goal to climb within the top 15 in the rankings in the upcoming season, while continuing to improve and develop his game. He also revealed that he’d also try to qualify for the year-end ATP finals in Turin, the senior equivalent of the tournament he won at the end of 2021.
“In 2022 I’m going to aim high and hope to break into the Top 15. I might even try and qualify for [the Nitto ATP Finals in] Turin. It’s a difficult goal, but it’s good at the end of the season,”- said the Spaniard in an interview with El Larguero.
