“We needed a BIG tennis story to start the year and Novak Djokovic has delivered!” Tennis Legend make fun of Australian Open controversy
Novak Djokovic and Greg Rusedski
It has been almost 2 years since the world was haunted and tormented by the hiatus of Covid-19 and still Novak Djokovic seems to be one of the biggest athletes who are surrounded by the cloud of uncertainty. But this time, it is not with any player or analyst but with the Australian Government. To add to the already existing chaos, former British no.1 tennis player, Greg Rusedski has decided to take a cheeky dig at the authority over the latest issue.
To those who are not aware World No.1 Serbian, Novak Djokovic was all set to defend his crown in Melbourne with the Australian Open commencing from January 17. However, with high hopes, the nine times Grand Slam winner stated on January 4 that he will be travelling Down Under with an exemplary permission. Which permits him to play even without the much-required Covid-19 vaccination.

Former No.1 Greg Rusedski takes a dig at Australian Government over Novak Djokovic Controversy
Now, with Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley making it absolutely clear that all players looking forward to participate in the Australian Open 2022 need to be vaccinated compulsorily, it remains unclear why Novak Djokovic was given a heads up. Now with reports of Djokovic planning to travel without a vaccination dose, many Australian tennis fanatics and legislators revealed their disagreement from this decision.
Now to what Tennis legend Greg Rusedski has called out the Australian Government is that, when reports of Novak Djokovic being disallowed to enter the country emerged, it was revealed that there had been visa application mix-up.
Apparently, the visa Djokovic applied for did not permit for medical exemptions if one is unvaccinated. Safe to say, it feels like the Australian Government is stepping in to overrule the Open organizers and those who granted the exception to the Joker. Furthermore, with Rusedski hinting that the Australian Government has been unclear of its own ruled and regulations, will Djokovic be allowed to play? Only time will unravel all speculations.
That being said, the situation in Melbourne does not look good for Djokovic, with the chance of defending his title being in great risk, will the Covid-19 vaccination be the talking point again? Who knows.
