What is the prize money for the 2023 Australian Open?
Australian Open Trophies (R - Men's Singles, L - Women's Singles)
The 2023 Australian Open, as always, will be the first Grand Slam of the season. The ‘Happy Slam’ will be held in Melbourne Park from 16th to 29th January. It will be the 111th edition of the historic tournament. In the Open Era, it will be the 55th edition of the tournament.
Following the drastic impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the tournament faced difficulties in the 2021 and 2022 editions. However, the 2023 edition looks to be as normal as pre-Pandemic times. This includes no restrictions regarding the Covid-19 vaccine for players and spectators both. The Grand Slam will also be getting a financial boost as the world opens up following the damaging impacts of the Pandemic.
The tournament set a personal prize money record in 2021 itself. Despite the global restrictions surrounding the Pandemic, Tennis Australia hiked the prize money by 4.9%. It took the total financial commitment of the tournament to A$75,000,000. At the 2023 Australian Open, however, the prize money increased further.
The official prize money has been listed at A$100,000,000 for the entire Australian Leg which commences with the United Cup and ends with the Grand Slam. The 2023 Australian Open will have a total prize of A$76.5 million. This surmounts a rise of 3.4% on last year’s prize shattering their own record.

With 76.5 million on offer, the tournament has continued its approach to keep higher prize money for the early rounds. This helps the lower-ranked players who don’t often make it to the second week but can get a good payout.
