“What’s with old retired players giving their opinion?” Nick Kyrgios defends Emma Raducanu after a string of recent criticism

Nick Kyrgios and Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu has been the most hyped-up player in women’s tennis for the last few months. She stunned the world at Flushing Meadows by becoming the first-ever qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam. Since then, she has constantly climbed up the rankings but still hasn’t delivered as promised.
She is continuously bowing out of the initial rounds but her popularity seems to be increasing with each passing day. She is also one of the most marketable athletes and is continuously signing new brand deals. Due to this, she is also subject to a lot of criticism and is often called out for not being ‘focused’.
Australian showman Nick Kyrgios has come in defense of Raducanu and has called out retired tennis players who are criticizing Raducanu. He said that he loves Andy Roddick and agrees with his idea of players throwing rackets, but added that he read an article about a former tennis player criticizing Raducanu.
“What’s with old retired players giving their opinion on our stars now? I love A-rod [Andy Roddick] and I agree we all need to chill with the rackets and all that, but geezus, I read an article about a past female player talking about Raducanu, no offense but she is a far far bigger name already,” Kyrgios wrote.
Many are assuming that the female tennis player Kyrgios is talking about is Kim Clijsters. The former world No. 1 recently took a cheeky dig at Raducanu for not performing after winning the US Open.
Nick Kyrgios on song in Miami

Nick Kyrgios has looked amazing this season on the court so far. The Australian looks very focused and for a change, is looking very consistent. After a good outing at Indian Wells, he has made it to the Round of 16 of the Miami Open too. He is yet to drop a set and got past the likes of Adrian Mannarino and 5th seed Andrey Rublev in the initial rounds before blasting past Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the third round in straight sets 6-2,6-4.
He will now face either Pablo Carreno Busta or Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 on Monday. It is to be noted that Kyrgios was drawn to face Sinner at Indian Wells too but the Italian pulled out of the match due to an injury handing a walkover to the Aussie. The Australian Open Men’s Doubles champion has an easy draw ahead if he beats Sinner in the fourth round and could realistically make it to the semifinals.
