Lloyd Harris
Lloyd Harris is one of the only two South African in the Top-100 of the ATP rankings. Harris who was born on 24 February 1997 in Cape Town, South Africa, turned Pro in 2015 and has shown signs of improvements in every season since then.
Harris initially played on the ITF and ATP Challenger circuit well into the 2018 season. He recorded his first ATP win at the 2018 Chengdu Open in China when he defeated Frenchman Gael Monfils in 3-sets in the first round. His improving performances saw him break into the Top-100 of the ATP rankings in 2019 and has been there ever since.
He has two ATP finals to his name, the 2020 Adelaide International, an ATP-250 event and then reached the finals of the 2021 Dubai Championships, an ATP-500 event. The tournament in Dubai was an amazing performance from Harris as he made it all the way to the final after having started the tournament from the qualifying rounds and fought his way to the main-draw and then the finals.
Who are Lloyd Harris’s Parents?
Lloyd was born to George and Cecelia Harris in Cape Town where George is employed in hospital management while his mother Cecelia is the owner of a sports line. He also has a sister named Monique.
Unfortunately in 2018, George Harris passed away while Lloyd was away at a tournament. Harris decided to continue playing in honour of his father’s memory and went on to win 2 Challenger tournaments in 2 weeks. His mother and girlfriend Biance Van Zyl are occasionally spotted in the players’ box during tournaments supporting and cheering for Lloyd in his matches.
Harris made his best Grand Slam run at the 2021 US Open where he reached the quarter-finals, his first quarter-final appearance at the Grand Slam.
