Denis Istomin qualified for the main draw of the French Open 2021, after winning three qualifying matches. The Uzbek tennis player turned pro in 2004, and is an experienced campaigner. The 34-year old will now face Roger Federer in the first round of French Open 2021.
Denis Istomin broke into the top 200 rankings of the world in 2005, after winning his first challenger tournament in Bukhara. He played his first Grandslam event at Australian Open 2006, where he was defeated by Roger Federer in straight sets in round one. The Uzbek tennis player has won two singles titles in his career, and has a highest ranking of world number 33, which he reached in 2012.
The defining moment of his career came at Australian Open 2017, when he defeated defending champion, Novak Djokovic in the second round in a five-set marathon. Moreover, he had to come back from a deficit of two sets to one, to claim the most important victory of his career.

Denis Istomin claimed his first singles ATP title in 2015, after he won the Nottingham Open, defeating Sam Querrey in the finals. His last title came in 2017 at the Chengdu Open, as he defeated Marcos Baghdatis in the finals. Istomin is one of the few players on tour who prefer to wear sunglasses while playing on court.
Denis Istomin has never managed to advance beyond the second round at the French Open. It will be an uphill task for the veteran to better his record in Paris this year as he comes up against 20 time Grandslam champion, Roger Federer in the first round itself.
However, Roger Federer is not in the best form heading into the tournament. His only appearance on clay courts this season came at Geneva Open 2021, where he lost in three sets to the Spaniard, Pablo Andujar in only the second round.
