In the opening round of the Wimbledon 2021, World No. 8 and the 6th seeded Serena Williams will be up against World No. 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Serena Williams comes chasing her 8th Wimbledon title that will see her tie the all-time Grand Slam record of Margaret Court who 24 while Serena is currently on 23. Serena won her last Wimbledon title in 2016 defending her 2015 Wimbledon title. Since then, Serena has been in two consecutive finals in 2018 and 2019, but failed to win the title losing in straight-sets both times.

Serena opted to not play in any of the Grass tournament in the build up to the Grand Slam and practiced all by herself. She last played at the French Open 2021 where she was defeated in the 4th round concluding her rather poor season on Clay where she failed to reach the quarter-finals of any tournament.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich will be making her 7th appearance at the Wimbledon Championships when she takes the court against Serena. The Belarusians best result so far at the Championships came at the 2018 Wimbledon where she reached the 4th round. She was defeated in the first round of the 2019 Wimbledon by eventual champion Simona Halep who is not playing this year.

Sasnovich comes to Wimbledon from a defeat in the first round qualifier at the WTA Berlin Open 2021 which remains her only Grass court match this season as she enters the Grand Slam at Wimbledon.

This will be their first ever meeting, hence the head-to-head stands at 0-0.

Aliaksandra will come into the tie with a career Grass record of 12-17 and an overall season record of 12-12. She has a record of 9-6 at Wimbledon and will find it tough to go past Serena this year.

Serena will take the court as the favourite and will come into the match with a career Grass record of 107-14 and an overall season record of 12-4. Her record at Wimbledon stands at 91-10, she will look to make an easy routing of Sasnovich to begin her campaign on a good note.

Prediction: Serena Williams to win in straight-sets.
