Over the last few years, people have had varying opinions over Nick Kyrgios, but one thing they all agree upon is that “the Aussie is an entertainer with both his on and off field antics”

The Aussie was back to his usual antics and entertaining ways at the Australian Open 2022. Firstly, Kyrgios smashed his racquet twice in court in two matches, once in his singles match against Daniil Medvedev and once in his doubles semi-final match alongside partner Thanasi Kokkinakis. In the latter match, the volatile Australian also stuck out his middle finger to a person in the crowd.

On Thursday, the pairing of Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis stormed into the finals of the Australian Open men’s doubles after a straight-sets win over Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers, to set up an all Aussie final at the Rod Laver Arena. The “Special K’s”, as the pairing is fondly known, had unparalleled energy on court during the match and had wild and passionate celebrations on court to rally up the local crowd post their win.

After the match, while in the press conference, Kyrgios was asked his opinion on the so-called “purists” of tennis, who are traditional in nature, and the people who watch tennis due to the entertainment factor, and whether the two sets of viewers can coexist. In his reply, Kyrgios said that his record speaks for himself, and that he has played both good and entertaining brand of tennis to satisfy both sets of fans. The Aussie said that he had won big matches and big tournaments in the past, and thus can now channel a different fanbase too.

“I think I played pretty good tennis in the past. I’ve beaten pretty much every player that’s picked up a racquet. I’ve obviously had to play a certain level of tennis. It’s not like I’m going out there putting on a clown suit and creating a circus. I have also played. won titles, won big titles, I have played the traditional way. I think now I’m able to channel a different, like, fan base. I think it’s only positive in my opinion.”– said the Australian in his reply.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis will now take on the pairing of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell in the final of the Australian Open men’s doubles on Saturday in what’s set to be a charged-up all Aussie title showdown.
