Ons Jabeur is inarguably experiencing her most productive season on the ATP tour this year. With multiple semifinal efforts, across surfaces, the Tunisian player has won 48 matches in 2021 till now.

Recently, Jabeur was seen at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he made yet another semifinal before losing to the eventual champion Paula Badosa. Owing to her consistent performances for the year, Jabeur has now made it to the top-10 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her life.

In the process, she also becomes the first woman from the Arab region to achieve the elusive feat. As reported by tennisuptodate.com, the 27-year-old said reflected on her amazing time on the circuit in 2021.

“It’s big. I never imagined that I could lead the tour in wins. It shows that, physically, I’m much better,” said Jabeur. “My tennis coach [Issam Jellali] is someone that I respect so much. We kind of started from the bottom together. We are now in the Top 10. They doubted us a lot as a team, but we stayed together. We kept communicating a lot. It’s never easy coming from my country.”

Currently, Jabeur is ranked No.8 in the world and considering the Tunisian’s form and confidence, she can further move a few spots up in the rankings going forward. “Now we are even more motivated to go even to the Top 5. Why not No. 1 in the world?”

Coach needs to understand the player’s need says Ons Jabeur

The World No.8 also opined that for a player to succeed at the highest level, one doesn’t need to hire a coach with a wealth of experience. Jabeur, instead explained how the coach and the player need to be on the same page to achieve the desired results.

“We have to change this mentality that you need to have a coach with a lot of experience. The most important thing is that the coach understands the player. From there, you can do amazing things. That’s what we did with my team. It’s a dream team I have. I hope we continue working hard.”
