World number 6 Maria Sakkari would definitely be one of the favorites for the title after an impressive year on the WTA circuit. The Greek reached her 3^rd WTA 1000 semi finals, while also reaching two Grand Slam semi finals at the French Open and the US Open respectively. The 26 year old then went on to qualify for the year end WTA finals, becoming the first Greek woman to qualify for the tournament.

Tamara Zidansek is comparatively the newer name in the circuit after rising this year following the best year of her career in 2021. The Slovenian reached the semi finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career at the French Open, becoming the first Slovenian to do so after Slovenia gained independence in 1991. She consequently entered the top 50 in the world rankings.
