Former World No. 11, Alize Cornet is seeded No. 9 here at this tournament. Before reaching the Round of 16, she beat Ann Li from the USA, 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 in her opening round of 32 match. Jasmine Paolini, on the other hand, had an upkeep hard court season prior to the US Open 2021. Mostly, she had an early exit at each of these tournaments except at the German Open where she emerged victorious in the run for the Women Doubles title alongside her partner Jil Teichmann. In her first-round match here, she beat Misaki Doi of Japan 6-4, 6-2.
