Women’s Singles Draw Analysis and Prediction
Top Half
The top half of the draw will be headlined by Elina Svitolina. She will face a qualifier in the opening round and is expected to face Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro in the Round of 16. Svitolina is drawn alongside another Frenchwoman, seveth seed Kristina Mladenovic who opens against a qualifier. Mladenovic is expected to face Danka Kovinic in the second round.
Third seed Sorana Cirstea will open her campaign against Tereza Martincova and will face the winner of another mouthwatering clash- Venus Williams vs Su-Wei Hsieh. Swiss sixth seed Viktorija Golubic will take on Maria Camila Osorio Serrano in the first round. She will then face either Rebecca Peterson or Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 16.
First Semifinal Prediction: Elina Svitolina vs Viktorija Golubic
Bottom Half
Fourth seed Tamara Zidansek will headline the bottom half of the draw who opens against Varvara Gracheva. The winner is expected to face Briton Heather Watson. Zidansek is drawn alongside Ukrainian eighth seed Marta Kostyuk, who will take on Katherine Sebov in the first round. Meanwhile, Kaia Kanepi will face Anhelina Kalinina, with the winner taking on Kostyuk.
Former French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova will face a qualifier in the opening round and is expected to face Belgian Alison van Uytvanck in the Round of 16. 9th seed Alize Cornet will take on Ann Li in the opening round with the winner taking on the winner of Misaki Doi vs Jasmine Paolini.
Second Semifinal Prediction: Tamara Zidansek vs Marketa Vondrousova
Semifinals
Elina Svitolina will be up against Swiss Viktorija Golubic in the first semifinal. Svitolina will go in as the favorite to win the match but will be wary of Golubic’s lethal groundstrokes from the baseline. Having said that, Svitolina is expected to beat Golubic and cruise into the final.
Clay court experts, Tamara Zidansek and Marketa Vondrousova will battle it out in the second semifinal. Both players have a solid defensive game and hence a very slow paced match is expected. Vondrousova will have an edge given her experience but expect the match to go down the distance.
Final
The Chicago Open final will be played between top seed Elina Svitolina and Marketa Vondrousova. Both players are vastly experienced and hence know how to hold their nerve. Svitolina will have an upper hand given her higher ranking and big match temperament.
