Women’s Singles Draw Analysis and Prediction
Top seed Camila Giorgi starts against local girl Caroline Garcia with the winner set to take on the winner from the all-Italian clash between Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan. Varvara Gracheva will take on Kristina Kucova while 7th seeded Alison Van Uytvanck will take on Vera Zvonareva to kickstart the proceedings.
3rd seed Viktorija Golubic begins against Greet Minnen while Anna Friedsam starts against Vitalia Diatchenko. Danka Kovinic will take on Arantxa Rus while local girl Kristina Mladenovic will start against 8th seeded Shuai Zhang.
First Semi-Final Prediction: Viktorija Golubic vs Camila Giorgi
5th seeded Jasmine Paolini starts against Irina Bara with the winner set to meet the winner from the clash of Oceane Dodin and Tamara Korpatsch. 4th seed and the home favourite Alize Cornet starts against Cristina Bucsa with the winner set to take on either Dayana Yastremska or Ana Bogdan.
2nd seed Sorana Cirstea starts against Mariam Bolkvadze with the winner set to take on either Stefanie Voegele or Elsa Jacquemot in the second round. Yuriko Miyazaki will take on Anna Bondar in the first round and their winner will clash with the winner of the clash between Katie Boulter or 6th seeded Ana Konjuh.
Second Semi-Final Prediction: Alize Cornet vs Sorana Cirstea
In what could be the first meeting for Golubic and Giorgi on the Tour having played earlier in the Fed Cup, Giorgi looks the one to move ahead and reach the finals given her superior record on the surface as compared to the Swiss woman. Veterans Cornet and Cirstea could meet for the 7th time and for the first time since 2016. Cornet will be the favourite given her better record on the surface and form this season.
WTA Lyon 2022 Final: Camila Giorgi vs Alize Cornet
It could potentially be the 8th meeting between Giorgi and Cornet and their first since 2020. Cornet had won the first two meetings but Giorgi has since then won the next 5 to take a 5-2 lead in the head-to-head. Given Cornet’s run at the 2022 Australian Open, she looks the favourite to capture the title on her home soil.
Champion: Alize Cornet
