Bogdan has played just two tournaments on clay this year. The first one was at Istanbul Cup where she reached the Quarter-finals of the event. In the Quarters she lost to Veronika Kudermetova. The second tournament she played on clay was in Madrid. At the Madrid Open she played the qualifiers to reach the main draw of the event. In the main draw she lost to Anastasija Sevastova. Her first round opponent here is Italian Sara Errani.

Errani is a veteran on tour and a clay court specialist. She has nine WTA titles to her credit, and also has a French open Final appearance. But the last few years have not been so fruitful for Errani. The last title she won on tour was at Dubai in 2016. This season on clay, she started at the Copa Colsanitas.

At Copa, WTA 250 event, she reached the Quarter-final. Post that though she has not done that well on clay, and that is a bit surprising considering her previous track record on the surface. She has lost in the first round of the MUSC Open and the Istanbul Open. In the Italian Open she failed to qualify into the main draw and lost to Polona Hercog in the Qualifiers, 2-6 3-6

Bogdan is in much better form than her opponent Errani on clay. Although Errani has experience her recent struggles are no secret. The twenty-eight year old Bogdan has shown fight this season, and will be a tough opponent for Errani. Expect Bogdan to edge this.
