Sara Errani vs Sara Sorribes Tormo: Match Preview
Sara Errani is a veteran on tour and a clay court specialist. She has nine WTA titles to her credit, and also has a French open Final appearance. But the last few years have not been that fruitful for Errani. The last title she won on tour was at Dubai in 2016. This year her clay court leg started at the Copa Colsanitas, WTA 250 event, where she reached the Quarter-finals.
Post that though she has not done that well on clay, and that is a bit surprising considering her previous track record on the surface. In the first round here, she beat Ana Bogdan, 7-5 4-6 6-1. Her second round opponent is twenty-four year old Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Post the Australian Summer, Tormo picked up some real momentum. She won the Guadalajara Open, beating Genie Bouchard in the Final. Then she reached the Semi-finals of the Monterey Open, and made an appearance in the Quarterfinal of the Miami Open. Her returns on clay this year have been poor though as she has barely made it past the first round. In the first round here, she got the better of Bernarda Pera in straight sets, 6-4 6-2.
Sara Errani vs Sara Sorribes Tormo : Head-to-head
Errani leads the head-to-head between these two players 4-0. Their last encounter was at Copa Colsanitas where Errani won 6-4 6-4.
Sara Errani vs Sara Sorribes Tormo: Prediction
Errani plays her best tennis on clay and already has a psychological edge over Tormo because of her superior record against her. In the first match Errani showed marked improvement in her serving, compared to the last few tournaments. 88% of her first serves were in, which is really good.
Tormo again had a fantastic run of results at the end of the hard court stretch but has been off the boil in the last few tournaments. The vastly experienced Errani should win this.
Match Prediction: Sara Errani will beat Sara Sorribes Tormo in three sets.
