2nd seeded Garbine Muguruza gets a bye in the first round and is likely to meet Ekaterina Alexandrova who will start against one of the qualifiers. Elise Mertens will also start against a qualifier while 9th seeded Sofia Kenin will start against Daria Kasatkina.

3rd seeded Barbora Krejcikova will take on Belinda Bencic in the first round and their winner will clash with one of the two qualifiers who are yet to be confirmed. Local girl Ajla Tomljanovic will also start against a qualifier and is likely to meet 5th seeded Paula Badosa who starts against Jelena Ostapenko.

Second Semi-Final Prediction: Garbine Muguruza vs Paula Badosa

Semi-Finals

Garbine Muguruza
Garbine Muguruza

Barty and Kontaveit could meet for the 4th time on the Tour with Barty currently leading the H2H 2-1. Both the hardcourt meetings have been won by the Australian and she will be the favourite this time as well, but Kontaveit has enough credits to her name that she can certainly win against the odds but it might be difficult this time.

The two Spaniards could potentially meet for the 2nd time after having played the semi-final at the 2021 WTA Finals where Muguruza won in straight-sets on her way to lifting the trophy. While Muguruza will start her season in Sydney, Badosa comes from a first round defeat to Victoria Azarenka in Adelaide and will be looking for good wins before she reaches the Slam.

Final Prediction: Ash Barty vs Garbine Muguruza

In what could be their 5th Tour meeting, the 2-time Grand Slam champions could play out a sensational final as both have been great on hardcourts. Given Barty won a final in Melbourne against Muguruza in the 2021 season, she would like for another win while Muguruza would certainly like to rain on the parade of World No. 1 who is the biggest favourite for the upcoming Slam.

Champion: Ash Barty
