“You are f***ing dead” Nick Kyrgios shares screenshots of death threats to him after another controversial exit in Houston

World No. 76 Nick Kyrgios continues to be involved in controversies both on and off the court. With back-to-back meltdowns in the Indian Wells and Miami Masters tournaments, the Australian was involved in another heated exchange with the chair umpire at the 2022 Houston ClayCourt championships where he lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Reilly Opelka.
With a line-call going against Nick that the umpire later admitted was not correct, giving rise to another controversy between the player and the ATP. With controversy and debates continuing the next day as Nick took to his Twitter account as well for addressing the incident, anonymous trolls on the Internet messaged the Australian Open champion giving death threats and telling him to quit the sport.
In screenshots shared by the player himself, one user on Instagram messaged Nick, “F*** you you piece of s***. Quit tennis,” while another user gave a death threat to the player with a message reading, “You are f***ing dead watch your back.” Nick shared the screenshots on his Instagram stories writing “Nice threats my G.”
ATP has yet to respond to the threats to Nick Kyrgios
The ATP is yet to respond to the threats made to Nick. With conversations starting about the mental health of athletes, easy access for people to threaten and abuse players is a step back in making the sport safe and accessible to everyone. The ATP had earlier hinted towards joining hands with social media platforms to curb the abuses and find the people behind the accounts but no concrete step has been taken so far.
As for Nick, he has been strong to the criticism and has responded in a unique fashion always. As he now goes on for a small break as he will skip the Clay season, he will return to the Tour directly for the Grass season and Wimbledon and would hope that his rank remains inside the Top-100 having entered the Top-100 just a few weeks back.
