German tennis star Alexander Zverev is known for playing some astonishing shots on the court, however, recently he has been involved in a scandal that is hurting his overall image. Zverev’s ex-girlfriend Olya Sharypova recently claimed that she was abused by Zverev.

She claimed that she was mentally and physically harassed by Zverev while they were together. She even went on to claim that she used to cry almost every day while she was with the German tennis player. Evidently, this did not go down well with Zverev and he has decided to take legal action.

Zverev took to Twitter to issue a clarification on the matter from his standpoint. He wrote that he is in talks with lawyers in Germany as well as in America and he will proceed legally in this matter. “I have engaged my German and American lawyers in the matter. They have already obtained a preliminary injunction against the source and the author who published the false allegations,” Zverev said.

He went on to deny all the accusations made by his ex-girlfriend, he said, “the court followed our arguments and states, the accusations aroused are defamatory and false. The lawyers have therefore initiated further proceedings against the source and the author. I categorically and unequivocally deny having abused Olya.”

After Zverev’s statement caught eyeballs, Slate, the publication which came out with all the allegations has also made it clear that they will not back down and that they are ready to face any legal action. Katie Rayford, the Director of Media Relations at Slate took to Twitter to put forth their take on the whole fiasco.

Katie wrote that although Slate doesn’t want to speak on any matter which is in litigation, they would like to make it very clear that they stand by their reporters who have done accurate reporting. Now, when the matter is in the hands of the court, it would be interesting to see if it affects Zverev and his gameplay in the days to come, especially with US Open about to begin.
