Alexander Zverev continues his dream debut at the Olympics as he moves into the last-8 of the mega-sports event. Zverev was up against Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the 3rd round and went on to defeat him 6-4, 7-6(5) in 1 hour and 38 minutes to register his 3rd consecutive straight-set victory in his week at the Olympics so far.
Zverev aced his way into the quarters, displaying a great service game against Nikoloz. Zverev hit 11 aces without a single double fault. He had a 100% return on the 2nd serve and converted both the break-points available to him. He won a total of 75 points while Nikoloz managed 56 as the big German played a great match against the Georgian.
Jeremy Chardy makes the most of his Olympics debut as the 34-year old ends the British tennis challenge at the Olympics defeating Liam Broady in the 3rd round to reach the quarter-finals. Chardy defeated Broady 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-1 in 2 hours and 37 minutes to become the 2nd Frenchman to move into this year’s Men’s Singles quarter-finals along with Ugo Humbert.
Chardy had a good service game and combined it with his big forehand to prevail against Broady who had to bite the dust due to his more forced errors. Chardy registered his 2nd consecutive 3-set victory at this year’s Olympics after coming on top against Russian Olympic Committee’s Aslan Karatsev in the 2nd round.
