The boxing world witnessed Saul Canelo Alvarez’s masterclass against Jaime Munguia on May 4. Many people believed that Munguia might be able to dethrone Alvarez since the young boxer looked great. As such, the Mexican undisputed middleweight champion successfully defended his titles against the young and hungry fighter. After the fight, Alvarez’s pound-for-pound rival, Terence Crawford, also reacted to his performance.
Munguia fought aggressively to try and take the lead, but Alvarez refused to fight and opted for a more measured approach. However, the young boxer did not back down and kept pressuring Canelo with his attacks. While Munguia threw more punches, it appeared that Alvarez’s precise punches made much more of a difference. Similarly, Crawford felt the same and stated that Alvarez carried the fight.

‘Bud’ complimented Munguia, who suffered his first knockdown. Nevertheless, he got back up and continued to fight until the end. Despite showcasing his bravery, it was clearly not enough against the boxing pound-for-pound veteran. On the other hand, Crawford seemed to have noticed several loopholes.
Crawford appears to be confident that he can emerge victorious if they ever set up a fight against each other. The chances of this fight happening remain slim as Crawford will move to the 154-pound division. Nevertheless, Canelo will go back to the drawing board awaiting his next fight after celebrating the win over a Golden Boy fighter.
Canelo Alvarez taunts Oscar De La Hoya after his victory
Typically, fights cause boxers to have an intense exchange of words throughout the buildup of the fight. However, this was not the case with Munguia and Canelo Alvarez, who showed mutual respect for each other. Subsequently, the heated tension was instead between Alvarez and his former promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.
Canelo and De La Hoya have had a long relationship working with each other that ended in 2020. As such, ever since then, they have thrown shade at each other by making several comments. The fight press conference also saw this when they almost got into an altercation. In the end, Alvarez seems to have had the last laugh and even made fun of De La Hoya after his victory.
Alvarez called De La Hoya a ‘beautiful girl,’ which was a reference to the flashy outfit that the Olympic Gold medal winner wore in the past. In addition, the Mexican boxing superstar made it clear that Oscar De La Hoya did not necessarily motivate him for this fight.
