With the Wimbledon Championship around the corner, some of the world’s best players in the men’s circuit aim to build momentum ahead of the Grand Slam event at the 2025 Terra Wortmann Open in Germany. The main draw of the ATP 500 tournament is set to kick off on Monday (June 16).

World No.1 Jannik Sinner is set to lead the event as top seed, with his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz competing at the Queen’s Club Championships in the same period. The Italian arrived as defending champion having beaten Hubert Hurkacz in a closely contested final last year. He will look to win the championship for a second consecutive year.

Also, he will used the tournament as a means of moving forward from the heartbreak he suffered at the French Open, where he agonizingly lost the clay-court Grand Slam to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller. Unfortunately, he ended the clay season without a title and will hope to continue with the trophy-less spell in Halle.

However, it will be far from an easy task for the 23-year-old, with the likes of World No.3 Alexander Zverev, former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev, two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, former Madrid Open champion Andrey Rublev, and tennis sensation Joao Fonseca also in the running for the title.

Meanwhile, Zverev arrives at the Terra Wortmann Open off the back of a final in Stuttgart. At Stuttgart, he played some great tennis but fell to American star Taylor Fritz in the final. It was his fifth consecutive loss against Fritz. The 28-year-old is a two-time finalist at the ATP 500 event but has not reached the final since 2017.

In addition, Rublev, who has struggled since winning the Qatar Open title in February is gaining some form ahead of the tournament. He reached the fourth round of the Roland Garros and before that got to the final of the Hamburg Open. The Russian star will now look to continue with his form on grass.

Terra Wortmann Open 2025 schedule

The main draw of the men’s singles events at the Terra Wortmann Open will start on June 16. The final will be wrapped up on June 22. However, on Thursday (June 19), there will be no match as players will take a one-day break ahead of the quarter-finals the following day.

The Terra Wortmann Open’s most successful player is Roger Federer, who has won the title 10 times. He last lifted the trophy in 2019 after saving three break points to beat David Goffin 7-6(2), 6-1 in an hour and 25 minutes. The Swiss went on to reach the Wimbledon Championship final but lost the title to Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller that lasted for four hours and 57 minutes.

Jannik Sinner will be hoping to learn from Federer at the tournament as he seems to win it the second straight time. However, he’s yet to get past the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championship. But he is seeking to win his second title of the season at the Terra Wortmann Open. He has been to two consecutive finals since returning from his three-month suspension in May. He’s the favorite to win the Halle title despite competition from Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev.

Additionally, João Fonseca is set to compete in Halle once again after accepting a wildcard. The Brazilian teenager’s only previous tour-level match on grass came at the event last year when he lost in the first round to James Duckworth. Nonetheless, the 18-year-old has progressed in his game since then, winning his first ATP Tour title at the Buenos Aires and reaching the third round of the Roland Garros
