In the 1970s, the Pittsburgh Steelers became one of the first dynasties in American football, winning four championships in six years. The glory years included winning back-to-back titles twice, in 1974 and 1975 and later in 1978 and 1979. Louisiana product Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll were the leaders in charge as the quarterback and the head coach, respectively.

Albeit their success together, the relationship between the two was described as distant, often tense, and never particularly close. Bradshaw has previously stated that a huge culture clash existed between their personalities, leading to their strained relationship. He also chose not to attend Chuck Noll’s funeral in 2014, despite being in Pittsburgh.

In an interview in 2016, Bradshaw iterated the hard feelings once again. He, however, claimed that they mended their relationship before the coach’s passing away. Bradshaw also stated that he never wanted to talk about Noll afterwards. But, he has spilled more beans.

In a recent episode of ‘To the Point – Home Services Podcast,’ Terry Bradshaw opened up more into his life as a quarterback and a Pittsburgh Steelers player. Bradshaw spoke about the differences in player endorsements and salaries, comparing them to his time when he had to work as a car salesman and fisherman during the offseason. However, Bradshaw and the host spent a significant amount of time speaking about Chuck Noll.

I did not like my head coach at all, Chuck Noll. He was not a nice person. And he was mean to me. In all my 14 years of playing for him, he never shook my hand one time, ‘Nice job, Terry.’ I was walking out, going onto the field to play the Cleveland Browns. And he stopped me and he said, ‘You mess up out there today, and I’ll bench your a** in the first half.’

He noted that Noll wasn’t a good person, but acknowledged the longtime coach for teaching him the hurt of taking something away from him.

Why didn’t Terry Bradhsaw attend Chuck Noll’s funeral and more?

In 2014, it made huge news when the four-time champion and two-time league MVP didn’t turn up for the funeral of his former coach. Earlier, Bradshaw made news after he performed his “America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde” show at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino just outside of Pittsburgh.

Amid the same event, Terry Bradshaw acknowledged the weird circumstances of his presence at the show.

Before I go forward with the show, I wanted to let you know that I am well aware of the passing of Chuck Noll…And now I don’t have my NFL coach. It’s kind of an empty feeling tonight. God bless Marianne, Chris and the Noll family. I am going to pay homage to my coach.

Bradshaw told the audience

However, former Steelers PR Executive Joe Gordon disputed the goody-two-shoes persona. In a podcast, he claimed that Bradshaw hadn’t reached out to the coach’s family since. In his exact words, he called Bradshaw the most insincere person he knew of.

Later, Terry Bradshaw noted that he only attends the funerals of his family members. Nevertheless, he admitted that he regrets missing the funeral of the Steelers’ Chief Art Rooney in 1988. He added that he doesn’t have the same feeling about Dan Rooney’s funeral.
