The Washington Commanders have the players to take the next step. Jayden Daniels and his offense have the experiences from last season to build on, and need Terry McLaurin and the receivers to continue producing at an elite clip.

McLaurin has been doing that for the past few years and has the tools and now the quarterback to continue doing so in the future. He might be turning 30 by the time their 2025-26 season starts, but he has not had to deal with injuries, which generally slow down receivers.

That is why he is demanding $30 million or more in what could possibly be his last major contract. He wants to stay in Washington and wants to be paid for what he has given to the franchise. However, the team is not on the same page.

Last week he expressed frustration at the lack of constructive dialogue between the front office and his representatives. The 2-time Pro Bowler was hoping the impasse would sort out before the next phase of training camp. Since that has not happened, the 29-year-old is taking a stand.

Washington WR Terry McLaurin, who is seeking a new contract, did not report to training camp today, per source. McLaurin was not present for the Commanders’ conditioning test today that marked an unofficial start of training camp. All other players are present and accounted for, just not McLaurin.

This revelation indicates the star wideout is going to hold out until he gets a new contract. He has not officially stated that he will not play until he gets one, but his actions so far suggest he is likely to follow that path.

Commanders GM focused on getting Terry McLaurin’s deal done

Terry McLaurin was the lone Washington Commanders player not at the training camp. During the first session, GM Adam Peters was in the media room when NBC Sports’ JP Finlay asked him about the wideout’s value.

Without a doubt, everybody in this building values Terry very much. In terms of where we are at, we’ve had conversations recently, and will look to have conversations. We’re going to do everything we can in order to get a deal done.

Adam Peters said

Going by Peters’ words, the franchise wants to get a deal done quickly. They want all their players at training camp, as they have to build chemistry before the season starts. If they are to take that next step, they need their most important receiver to be on the same page.

ESPN analyst believes Commanders did not account for Terry McLaurin’s unhappiness

All those words from Adam Peters might be good news for Washington Commanders fans. However, until the deal is signed, Terry McLaurin is not guaranteed to continue with the team. To be fair to the team, they are worried about the natural decline among receivers after they turn 30.

However, he has not had the injuries most receivers struggle with, and is known to be a great locker room leader. ESPN’s Peter Schrager touched on that subject while speaking on The Pat McAfee Show.

He was Jayden’s (Daniels) No. 1 guy, and has done everything you could possibly ask for from a veteran WR, as the captain of this team, and is beloved. They didn’t account for an unhappy Terry McLaurin when they went all in on Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil.

Peter Schrager said

Schrager admitted that McLaurin might not be in the league of Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase, but still is better than most in the league. When discussing the WR’s impact on the locker room, the entire crew of PMS agreed that he deserved more than what Garrett Wilson received from the Jets.
