“That fight makes me nervous” – Dan Hooker weighs in on Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz
One of the most anticipated fights in recent times is Israel Adesanya vs Jan Blachowicz which has been scheduled to headline UFC 259 on March 6. The former is the middleweight champion while the latter is the light heavyweight champion and hence, if Adesanya wins it, he will become the first fighter ever to hold both the titles. Due to the gravity of the fight and the laurels at stake, the fight might as well be in contention for being the Pay-Per-View of the year.
Adesanya’s training partner for quite a long time has been lightweight No. 6 Dan Hooker and the 30-year-old has now opened up about the fight between ‘The Last Stylebender’ and Blachowicz. He has stated that he is nervous about the fight but also excited to see the two men battle it out.
‘Every time I feel like this, Adesanya does his best’
Dan Hooker spoke about the much-anticipated fight between Blachowicz and Adesanya recently in an interview with Heavy. He said, “That fight makes me nervous. But every time I feel like this, [Adesanya] does his best performances, which is the funniest thing. The two other times I felt like this was when he fought Derek Brunson and when he fought Rob Whittaker. [They were] the two other times when I was like, ‘Oh man, he’s in for one heck of a fight or he’s in for a dog fight here.’“
Hooker continued, saying that it is such challenges that bring out the best in Adesanya. “It brings out the best in him when you put a huge test in front of him or a huge challenge in front of him. That’s when he shines and that’s when he does an outstanding job. So, it’s hard because this fight definitely makes me nervous. [Blachowicz] is a big boy. He hits hard and he’s a really powerful striker. I’m excited to see that one but I’m also incredibly nervous at the same time,” he signed off.
Come March 6, all eyes will be on this fight which might as well turn out to be one for the ages.
