“The record is not important to me,” Lewis Hamilton solely focused on getting that exclusive race win in 2022

Lewis Hamilton hasn’t won a race in the 2022 season. With Mercedes not topping the list this season, it is tough for its driver duo to get on the top of the podium. A second and third position in a race is something Mercedes cherish this season. All along the first half of the season, Mercedes tried to close the gap with Red Bull and Ferrari. They have come a long way but are still far off from a consistent race-winning pace.

Mercedes haven’t got a win this season but they have got a few chances. But the closest they were to a win was at the Dutch GP. Lewis almost won a race this season with no DNF at the top. He was leading the race and would have won if not for his bad luck. Mercedes’ strategy has been very poor with their strategy in the last race.

Even though they tried a brilliant one-stopper they lost out at last in a safety car. If Lewis would have won the race, he would have continued his streak of 15 years with a win in all seasons, no matter his car. But 2022 hasn’t really been kind to him with no wins yet.

Though Lewis disconnects himself from a record he still wants a win, “Still got 7 races to go. That’s a big goal for us a team. I have no idea where our car is going to be great. It was a surprise last weekend when we got into the car and it felt so much better and different to the previous weekend. It feels like Budapest and the last race. I am trying to get that win this year but the record is not important to me,” said Lewis.

Daniel Ricciardo has been rumoured to connect with Mercedes as their third driver. After his mash-up with McLaren, Ricciardo has no team to drive for next season. Though Lewis understands Daniel’s worth, he doesn’t want him to deserve to be a reserve driver with his skills.

Lewis understands Daniel’s future as a driver, not someone who sits and watches, “I think he should be racing. He is far too talented, and he has earned the right to be amongst us racing. If he is part of the team then great, but the role is not really what’s best for him. If I was managing him, he’d be racing,” said Lewis.

Mercedes having a good pace has been an advantage for them, though they aren’t near the top two teams they still hope for a win this season. Mercedes currently is 30 points off Ferrari for the second position.
