WWE had long expected The Rock to be part of WrestleMania 41. However, during his return at Raw’s Netflix debut, he surprised fans by appearing as a babyface, acknowledging both Roman Reigns and his archrival, Cody Rhodes. Despite this unexpected shift, recent reports continue to fuel hopes of seeing The Great One at WrestleMania in Las Vegas.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that The Rock is still likely to appear at WrestleMania 41. While this could mean being in the audience or backstage with the talent, it is clear that it won’t be a wrestling appearance. Fans should, however, be ready to hear some electrifying tunes, even without any continuation of his previous storyline.
Recently, Cody Rhodes also spoke about the possibility of The Rock’s return, stating that he believes the legend has something planned for him. However, this could be a bait as it seems unlikely after the two stars buried the hatchet during Raw’s Netflix debut. Also, there isn’t any ongoing development in a potential storyline with Roman Reigns, raising further questions about Dwayne Johnson’s future.
Meltzer’s report also provided insights into the potential card for WrestleMania, despite The Rock’s absence. He mentioned matches like Jey Uso vs. Gunther, John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes, and Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens as possible bouts for Mania. The journalist also noted that the card shifted significantly after Johnson’s exit, adding major ramifications to the event.
WWE management was unhappy with The Rock after Bad Blood
The Rock made his return to WWE last year at Bad Blood, after a six-month hiatus following WrestleMania XL. It was an electrifying moment that drew significant attention to the company. However, it ultimately went nowhere as WWE never even acknowledged that moment again. It was later revealed that the company was unhappy with how things unfolded at Bad Blood.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE was subtly opposed to the moment at Bad Blood. It was believed that Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, or perhaps CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, should have been the ones to close the show. However, The Rock made his way into the programming at the last minute, putting WWE in a difficult position.
Moreover, The Rock’s gesture at Bad Blood went nowhere, making it one of the most awkward moments in hindsight. However, Meltzer also revealed that The Great One operates on his own terms. If he wants to make an appearance, he will do so regardless of the situation. As a result, WWE had no choice but to go along with his decision.
