Saturday saw a massive presence of cricketing stars in the stands of Wimbledon 2024 as it rained icons in London. From arguably the best batter in cricketing history known as Sachin Tendulkar to a flurry of English stars namely Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, the Royal Box was a star-studded sky.
As the tradition of Wimbledon would have it, when there are special guests coming in, they always get a special mention which makes them standout and also serves as an honour call to all the service that they have done to the sport. It was nothing different for Sachin Tendulkar, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler.

The three other cricketing legends from England were also a part of the same mention as they acknowledged it with a smile on their face while being applauded by the crowd serenading them in the Royal Box.
All the four stars of the sport have contributed immensely to the game. From Tendulkar’s towering displays across Tests and ODIs to Root’s scintillating showdown in the same formats, Stokes and Buttler managed to extend their services to T20Is as well wherein carving a name for themselves in the longer siblings of the sport.

India were crowned the champions of the 2011 World Cup with a phenomenal win against Sri Lanka in the grand finale. Sachin Tendulkar emerged as the leading run scorer for India while being the second highest run-scorer in the tournament, 18 runs adrift of Tillakaratne Dilshan who had 500 in his repertoire.
The grand finale which was hosted in Wankhede saw Sri Lanka batting first and pile up 274/6. Mahela Jayawardene smashed a staggering ton to propel the visitors to a formidable score despite a shaky start. India had early jitters to brave as they lost the likes of Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag early. However, Gautam Gambhir‘s sparkling 97 laced with an unbeaten 91 from MS Dhoni sealed the thunder for Team India.
After India’s recent triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, India celebrated their victory parade’s final chapter in Wankhede following which the deputy CM of Maharashtra called for another bigger stadium to take centerstage so that at least a population of 1 lakh people can be accommodated.
