‘The title race will go to the final match day’, says Koeman
FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman believes that the La Liga title will be decided in the final match day after Atletico dropped 2 points against Getafe. Barcelona will face Huesca on a Monday night fixture in the Spanish league.
Ronald Koeman has warned against complacency as his side look to cut the gap to Atletico Madrid with victory over rock-bottom Huesca on Monday. The Catalans are on unbeaten run in La Liga and their last defeat came against Cadiz on December 5.
Barcelona are coming off an impressive away performance against Paris
Barcelona have a great chance of closing the gap at the top of La Liga to just 4 points if they manage a win against Huesca. Koeman wants his side to take nothing for granted to be fully focused, despite facing opponents who have recorded just one win in their last 20 away league games in the top flight.
“I have always said that it is a very long season,” Koeman said during Sunday’s pre-match press conference. “Atletico’s points in the first half of the year were not normal; they were strong and very effective. After losing away to Cadiz we have gained a lot and improved.
“The title race will go to the final matchday and it will be difficult for us, Atletico, Real Madrid. We have to go little by little and we’ll see.”
“First we have to win tomorrow, but we are closing the gap,” Koeman told the media. The run is a demonstration that we have improved, but there are no easy games. Those from below fight not to be relegated and those from above, to qualify for Europe.
“You don’t have to look at the table but go to win every game. We can’t fail any more. Atletico Madrid is going strong and Real Madrid is there too.”
