The Undertaker has been keeping an eye on reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther for quite a while now. Having previously dubbed the Austrian a throwback to a different era, Taker finally got a chance to meet him in person a few weeks ago on Raw. WWE was in Taker’s home state of Texas, and he made a backstage visit to catch up with the current crop of talent.
Speaking on his ‘Six Feet Under’ podcast, The Deadman revealed that he told Gunther to his face that he’d loved to wrestle him during his heyday. Further, the WWE HOF’er claimed that he would’ve made tons of money working with The Ring General. Undertaker said the 37-year-old was extremely gracious throughout their conversation and thanked the wrestling great for his words of wisdom.
At last, the real-life Mark Callaway jokingly asked the former NXT UK Champion not to screw it up in the future. One of the interesting conclusions Taker has drawn from the way Gunther carries himself is the lack of chicken sh*t antics. The 59-year-old retired wrestler advised the Imperium boss to consider adding that to his repertoire in order to avert a premature babyface turn.
By the looks of it, Gunther is one of the most favorite aspects about today’s WWE for The Undertaker. And why not? The Vienna-born wrestler is hailed as someone who single-handedly restored the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship, backed by Triple H‘s acclaimed creative.
Having dropped the IC title after 666 days, the longest reign in history, he’s now a world champion in WWE. The top brass of the company reportedly sees him as the guy who’d be a poster boy for them in this decade.
Gunther stood his ground against Sami Zayn on Raw
This week on Raw, Gunther finally laid his demons to rest. He was opposing a motivated Sami Zayn, relying on his doggedness to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite Gunther’s prohibitive win-loss record on the main roster, Zayn was believed to have the mental edge over his opponent.
Their previous meeting at WrestleMania XL left Gunther in trenches as Sami ended his Intercontinental title reign. Seeking a repeat, the former Honorary Uce passed out to the sleeper hold applied by Gunther.
After their match was over, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came face-to-face with the erstwhile Walter. The two world champions will vie for the Crown Jewel title come November 2 in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
