“Payback for some stuff,” 59-year-old legend fondly recalls beating up The Rock at WrestleMania XL; what he misses the most about WWE these days

WrestleMania 40 set unprecedented records with The Rock wrestling his first WWE match since 2016. He even got slammed by his contemporary.

The aftermath of wrestling retirements can be difficult to deal with. One such legend who’s been earnestly trying to find solace with where he’s at in life after having a three-decade-long WWE career is The Undertaker. He recently joined Good Morning America to chat about WWE Legends & Future Greats (LFG). In the meantime, he reminisced about sharing a moment with The Rock last year.

The Deadman, while sporting a subtle grin, looked back on WrestleMania XL. On night two of the show, he choke-slammed The Rock, which significantly impacted Cody Rhodes‘ quest of finishing his story with Roman Reigns. Undertaker joked that his beatdown of The Great One was a receipt for things they did in their WWE heyday.

But solemnly, the real-life Mark Callaway was quite appreciative of Rock’s trailblazing exploits in the wrestling business. Speaking of what Taker still misses about not being an active performer anymore—the adrenaline rush of a jam-packed arena. Apart from that, The Phenom spoke about the camaraderie he shared with some in the locker room.

Rock and I, we kind of linked up last year at WrestleMania and I got to give him a little bit of payback for some stuff back in the day.

Although he doesn’t get to experience it that often nowadays like Taker did a while ago, the WWE HOF’er asserted that the friendships he made along the way will stick with him until he’s alive. Finally, the 59-year-old Texan gave a little insight about the prospect, i.e., WWE LFG.

As evident by its content, the series provides an exclusive look into how a quartet of wrestling greats is scouting the next generation of WWE Superstars. Undertaker is joined by Bully Ray, Booker T, and Mickie James on this project, with Triple H and Shawn Michaels also supervising the panel.

Why did The Rock cancel his WrestleMania 41 plans?

The Rock was arguably the biggest centerpiece of attraction at last year’s WrestleMania. He was on course to repeat that feat in 2025, but everything fell through. At one point, The Brahma Bull was considered a lock to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

However, as the fans witnessed on Raw’s Netflix debut show, the actor buried the hatchet with his longtime rival. The segment left the WWE Universe in shambles. After constantly teasing Rock’s chase of Rhodes for months, WWE basically blew up the story at once.

In hindsight, it was bound to happen. Dwayne Johnson allegedly told the company he wouldn’t be able to compete at WrestleMania back in October itself. He’s slated to complete the reshoots of Moana 2, let alone the filming for Fast X: Part 2. Having said that, The People’s Champ might just make a one-off appearance at Mania, if his schedule permits.
