The shelf life of Cody Rhodes‘ portrayal of a fan-loving, arduous babyface is a testament to his undettered commitment to this business. In this age of the internet, babyfaces are indeed a dying breed. However, if anything Cody’s run post-WWE return has told, the pro wrestling biz was in dire need of such gimmicks. But how long before the fans turn their backs on him?

It might not appear likely as of now, but it’d eventually happen, according to The Undertaker. Speaking on his ‘Six Feet Under’ podcast, the WWE legend claimed that Rhodes has yet to peak. Moreover, when he does turn heel, he should be kept as a solo act because Taker believes Cody’s arrogant enough in kayfabe to talk some trash.

The Deadman doesn’t think Rhodes will need a manager by his side. Back when he was in AEW, The American Nightmare used to be accompanied by Arn Anderson. The latter made a one-off WWE appearance last month at SummerSlam to endorse his former client as he was about to defend his Undisputed WWE title against Solo Sikoa.

I don’t think he’s peaked yet — I think it’s inevitable eventually that [the fans will] turn on him. I don’t think he needs a manager — he can talk, he’s very arrogant……..

Adding what else Undertaker noted about Cody’s nuances is that the 39-year-old carries himself so confidently, which at times makes one have the urge to slap him. That last bit might be the biggest compliment a heel could envision—making the audience despise him.

That coming from an icon like Taker is just an icing on the cake. If the former AEW EVP were to alter his persona and get on the wrong side of the fans, he could do so by adding an ounce of chicken sh*t to his repertoire, affirmed the 59-year-old, concluding his argument.

Why WWE won’t find it easy to turn Cody Rhodes heel?

Numbers don’t lie, and they suggest that Cody Rhodes has been one of WWE’s most successful babyfaces, at least of the past decade. Recently, he was listed as the only wrestler among other sports personalities in the top 5 merchandise sales on Fanatics. That, in itself, is truly impressive.

As things stand, the in-house attendance at WWE shows continues to rally behind The Prodigal Son. Furthermore, his appeal to a younger demo knows no bounds. Every other day, he’s involved in altruistic causes.

All in all, WWE wouldn’t want to have Cody berate the same audience that has withstood the test of time. This Saturday, at Bad Blood, Rhodes will join forces with Roman Reigns to battle Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu.
