Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni

Captain Virat Kohli is one of those who will be forever remembered for his intense and strong game. Kohli is already counted among the best cricketers and from the last few years of his career has risen up as a star.

Recently, Virat revealed an anecdote of 2015 he landed in a pickle when he was in a fix after Ex-Captain MS Dhoni asked him to keep wickets during an international match.

Dhoni needed to go to the washroom, so he asked his younger teammate to take the wicketkeeping responsibility. Kohli duly obliged and at the start of the 44th over of the Bangladesh innings, he donned the gloves. Before Dhoni returned to take the gloves back, Virat kept wickets till the completion of the 45th over.

But just in those two over, he realized how tough things were for Dhoni and how tough it was to keep against pacers like Umesh Yadav under light.

Kohli talks about his experience when MS asked him to keep the wickets

“Kabhi Mahi bhai se puchiyo how did this happen (Ask Mahi Bhai once as to how did this happen). He said ‘yaar do teen over just keep wickets (Mate, please keep wickets for couple of overs)’. I was keeping wickets and also adjusting the field.” Virat Kohli told Mayank Agarwal ‘s show ‘Open Nets With Mayank’.

He added, “Then I understood he (Dhoni) has a lot on his plate when he is on the field because he has to focus on every ball and also adjust the field. It was fun.”

But what was not fun was that Umesh (Yadav) was bowling and he was bowling gas. I was standing under lights and it was so tough to pick the ball. I thought naak pe lag jaegi ball (what if I get hit in the face) and I wanted to wear a helmet but then thought bahut beijjati ho jayegi (it would be very humiliating).” Kohli further added.
