The Tale of “Tony Ferguson” and “Michael Chandler” continues! Michael Chandler is the latest addition to the UFC lightweight division and the biggest prospect. Chandler has been calling out the boogeyman himself, Tony Ferguson. He wants El Cucuy to be his debut fight and has shown a ton of internet in fighting him. When Michael dialled the calling out down, Tony accepted and asked to fight in December.
However, the fight game is seldom this simple. Despite the fact that Michael has been on a campaign to get a fight with El cucuy, interestingly enough, when he finally got a response out of Ferguson, Chandler rejects the offer to fight in December made by Tony and says they just are not on the same page.
Michael ‘Iron’ Chandler recently spoke with ESPN regarding this whole Tony Ferguson situation. He claimed that he and Tony simply are not on the same page. He is unwillingly to fight Ferguson on such short notice. However, if the bout is scheduled on January 23, he is all game.
Chandler shying away from ‘dream debut’?
Chandler said “There is a 0% chance I’ll fight Tony Ferguson in December,” when asked about their bout and if he would fight Tony in December. He added, “And I 100% know he knew that, because the UFC already told him that, and I’ve already said I’ll see him in January.”
Michael said, “Now that we have Conor fighting Dustin, it looks like that fight will get booked on Jan. 23. They need a co-main event. Why wouldn’t it be Chandler vs. Ferguson?” It seems Chandler has made up his mind and we are going to have to wait.
“You are dodging to fight me” says Tony Ferguson

However, Ferguson claims else wise saying that the UFC has said that Chandler has accepted another fight and he is just dodging the opportunity to fight him. He appears to be mocking the way Chandler seems to openly express his mutual desire to fight ‘El Cucuy’ but is secretly afraid and taking up other fights instead.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to wait till January to see these two brawl it out. When asked about why the hesitancy in accepting the bout in December, Michael said he needs a break after constantly following a training schedule for 9 straight months.
“The UFC didn’t offer me the fight in December, because they know I’m on a timeline now. I just made weight in October. Everybody knows I’m an active fighter and I’m constantly training, but I needed just four weeks off. Essentially, Tony is campaigning for us to fight in 3.5 weeks”
A fight between these two is going to be absolutely fantastic! Fans love an El cucuy fight and Iron Chandler’s wanting to fight him as his debut just goes to show how tough the Bellator Champ really is. What do you guys think about this matchup? If it happens on January 23, are we talking about records breaking?
