Another legend bites the dust in 2020. One of the trailblazers of soccer, Diego Maradona, succumbed to a heart attack. He was one full of light and with his support for Roger Federer, showed that boundaries can’t exist between sports.

Very much like Diego himself, Roger has broken a myriad of records in tennis. He stands firm as the player with the most number of weeks as the World No.1 in history. Further, the latter is the only man besides Rafael Nadal to have laid claim to an astounding 20 Grand Slam titles.

Just last year, the Argentine expressed his fondness for Federer. He sent in an emotional video at the exhibition match in Buenos Aires where Roger played against Alexander Zverev.

Moreover, Maradona is heavily credited for Argentina’s triumph at the World Cup in 1986. Inspite of being a controversial figure at times, he will be regarded as an icon who looked out for his teammates, no matter the cost.

This sincerity which Maradona bode in his life, reflects in his message to the Swiss Maestro. It reads as such:

“Hello master, machine, as I like to call you. You have been, you are and you will always be the greatest. There is no one like you. If you have any problems in our country, you can call me and tell me what you need. A big kiss to your wife and children. You are the greatest ever.”

Roger, who had just lost the bout against Zverev 6-7, 6-7, was moved to tears by Diego’s message. Like he did to the rest of the world, Maradona left Federer speechless. Hence, he will continue to thrive through these memories he created.
