With the passing away of Diego Maradona, the world has suffered a grave loss. Maradona was the greatest soccer player to rise out of Argentina, and was heavily credited for the nation’s World Cup win in 1986.

It is after this unfortunate event, that ATP stars and fellow compatriots Diego Schwartzman and Juan Martin Del Potro have expressed their grief. Along with a number of ATP champs, WTA stars and tennis bodies also paid tribute to the soccer legend.

ATP and WTA champs express their grief over Diego’s passing

Maradona sported fans from every sport, especially tennis, as he was vocal about his respect for the players. Many tennis champions reacted when news of his death broke out.

The camaraderie between Rafael Nadal and Maradona was quite apparent. They were often spotted together and both greatly admired each other. Nadal’s academy, ‘Rafa Nadal Academy,’ posted a clip in which the duo can be seen conversing like the pals they were.

US Open 2009 victor, Del Potro was visibly upset after learning of Diego’s passing. “I feel like you’re returning to where you belong, to HEAVEN. For me you will never die. Rest in peace,” he stated.

Further, the World No.9, Diego Schwartzman, who was named after Mardona himself, said, “How could you not be named Diego? I love you forever D10S (‘god’).”

Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters also remembered Maradona. She shared a picture of him with the Football World Cup and wrote, “R.I.P”.

Countless others have also expressed their grief over the unfortunate event.
