The main card of UFC 259, started off with a very uneventful fight. Number 4 ranked light-heavyweight contender Aleksandar Rakic took on number 2 ranked light-heavyweight veteran Thiago Santos. Although Aleksandar Rakic made sure that he won the fight safely, he and especially his opponent Thiago Santos were criticized for playing it safe. Even the commentary panel, headed by Joe Rogan was quite disappointed with the way the fight panned out.

In the wake of this, Thiago Santos took to Twitter, claiming that it was his fault and there were no excuses for his dismal performance. The match had shades of resemblance to the recently concluded heavyweight match between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane.

‘I left it up to the judges’

“No excuses, I left it up to the judges, it was my fault,Thiago Santos tweeted.

Thiago Santos let down a glorious opportunity to rise even further in the light-heavyweight division. He could have even called-out Glover Teixeira who is currently next in line for the title shot. Now, he must go the long-route in order to inch towards a possible title shot.

Aleksandar Rakic, on the other hand, got the job done. The win would probably put him further up in the light-heavyweight rankings. The 29-year old Austrian even hinted that a title shot might soon be at hand at the post-fight press conference.

What do you think the future holds for these top ranked light-heavyweights?
