Thiago Santos is no.2 in UFC’s Light Heavyweight division

A much-awaited Light Heavyweight fight between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira which was set to go down on October 3, 2020 has been scratched. That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting. Which reveals that Santos has tested positive for COVID-19 resulting his withdrawal from the event.

Earlier this month Teixeira had tested positive of COVID which resulted in this particular being postponed. This fight was originally set to headline UFC Vegas 10 on September.

Talking about Teixeira and Santos there will be no postponing this time around. Which means now the promotion has a decision to make with Teixeira as far as trying to find him a replacement. Or perhaps removing him from the event altogether.

Teixeira looked to continue an impressive 4-fight win streak that extended into 2020. As he defeated Anthony Smith by 5th-round TKO. Talking about his, now former opponent Santos, this was his first fight this year after loss at title match against Jones in 2019 at UFC 239. Both fighters have lost to Jon Jones.

The winner of the Santos-Teixeira fight was potentially next in line for a title shot against either Dominick Reyes or Jan Blachowicz. Reyes and Blachowicz fight at UFC 253 for the light heavyweight championship left vacant by Jon Jones.

The UFC event on October 3 would be headlined by Holly Holm vs Irene Aldana in a women’s bantamweight contest. The latter has also fought a battle with COVID-19.
